In the GSF vs. Coaches Exhibition Match, the coaches gave the GSF quite a drubbing even though it counted Wilfried Lemke, former Manager of Werder Bremen FC and Mansour Muftah, former Asian and Qatari star player. It was all played for fun. Youth delegates did a fine job as referee and line officials.

Mr. Wilfried Lemke, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on Sports for Development and Peace spoke at the seminar on the Positive Value of Sport. He encouraged the audience to keep in mind the spirit of sport and to use the unique opportunity they had to be in Doha for the GSF youth camp to make use of the experience. He offered examples of children who have been in circumstances in which they had to make use of what they had. He mentioned five priorities of his office in promoting sport around the world. Showing that he was prepared to take part in activities with them at Al Rayyan, Mr. Lemke held up two pairs of shoes - one for football and one for basketball and wished them lots of fun.

Seminar 9 was used to distribute the written evaluation to the coaches and that was followed by a 10-question Quiz on the GSF. Winners go leather-bound flash drives and the competition was hot from start to finish.

Gala Awards Evening:
This was the occasion all were waiting for as delegates and guest turned up in the evening at the Marriott Hotel Al Fairouz Hall to a buffet dinner for their awards as GSF Ambassadors. Images of the youth camp were shown on two screens and delegations were seated at tables bearing their countries flags and background music. Mr. Ali Al-Mansori, President, Qatar Equestrian Federations, delivered a message on behalf of the QOC Secretary General and Mr. Wilfried Lemke was the Guest Speaker. The GSF Project Coordinator gave a short summary of the camp's major outcomes.

A total of 120 GSF Youth Ambassadors and 31 GSF Coach Ambassadors were presented with medals and certificates by Messrs. Ali and Lemke and each team had official photographs taken. Winners of the GSF Fair Play Awards and the Multinational Teams in football and basketball were presented with prizes.

The next highlight of the evening was the contribution by all delegations, except for Algeria, to the Cultural Presentation. We were entertained by music, songs, poetry, and dance by different countries. Some were pieces were elaborate and a number of delegations wore special costumes for the occasion. It was a memorable evening and the friendships made over the 5 days left many feeling a bit sad that we were leaving.

Several delegations exchanged gifts and made presentations to the GSF in appreciation for the work done to host the international your camp in Doha.

The GSF Core Team extends thanks and appreciation for having met and interacted with each member of the delegations and wishes them a safe journey home and success in their studies and work. We hope you all had fun and we will be in touch again soon as you help to share the experience gained in Doha with family, friends and teachers in your schools.

Slides were shown of the harm doping can do to the human body. Included among the pictures were individuals showing abnormal growth in muscle, facial hair on women, men getting large breasts among some of the examples of physical changes that have been observed in athletes.

Next, the youth were allowed to take a computerized Anti-Doping Quiz that comprised 10 multiple-choice questions that changed for each user. The correct answers came up whenever a wrong answer was selected. This quiz is part of the WADA Athlete Outreach agreement with the QADC to encourage athletes to use the Quiz to learn more about anti-doping. Prizes also offer encourage young athletes to wear or use the prize and promote clean sport. Information on the WADA Coach's Tool Kit was shared with coach delegates that presents a basic overview of anti-doping topics, with a strong emphasis being placed on the role values play in shaping decision-making. At the end of the seminar all participants were each given a bag containing literature and some goodies.

In Seminar 7, UNESCO - What can you do to contribute to Peace and Fair Play? Dr. Benno and Ms. Muna took the delegates through a quick tour of what UNESCO does in the field of education, natural, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information. In August, UNESCO will be promoting the International Year of Youth 2010 and read out a Special message from David Douillet, UNESCO Champion of Sport, who won Olympic gold medals in judo in 1996 and 2000, four times World Champion and once European Champion. He reminded the youth and coaches to defend fair play and promote sport without doping, which the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport has been advocating since 2007.

This remainder of the session then organized the youngsters in groups to discuss "How they can promote peace and fair play in sport." Each group had a Chair and Rapporteur and recorded contributions on flip charts. The results were read out in summary form to the groups afterwards. Fair play featured prominently in the suggestions and youth wanted parents to become more active in helping use sport to promote peace.

Sightseeing: The second sightseeing trip took place in the afternoon and included a guided tour of the ASPIRE Academy zone, where work on hosting the FIFA World Indoor Championships was underway. The area under cover included, a full-size indoor football field, indoor athletics venues, multipurpose courts, Olympic-size swimming and diving pools. Afterwards, participants spent time in the Villagio Mall and some later went to watch a football match between Al Sadd of Qatar vs. Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.

Coaches' presentations: During the evening, coaches from Algeria, Brazil (23 Feb), Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji, Indonesia, and Turkey made presentations on their respective NOCs as well as shared information on activities that involved youth in their countries. Several speakers mentioned that they wanted to incorporate the GSF Model into programmes that could help improve youth back in their home countries. We will be glad to help promote country training camps for coaches that would help spread the GSF Model of "fun in sport and learning".

February 23
In Day 3, the delegates moved into the Multinational Competitions phase of the camp in football and basketball.  This time they had to follow the GSF Fair Play Score Card and adapt play behaviours that comply with the spirit of sport.  After a nervous start, play picked up and the end of the day saw only one team not picking up any of the 2 points for Fair Play.  In football one team scored the maximum 4 points (2 points for a win and 2 points for Fair Play).

The first Seminar on Youth Leadership emphasized the need for social and emotional intelligence to be among the skills of young leaders.  Radovan (Czech Republic) introduced them to the "tree" and had them trying out two movement activities that generated excitement and enthusiasm.  The children even had homework to do.

The second Seminar was about Drug and Delinquency Awareness to highlight the risks involved in experimenting wih illicit substances.  The young delegates showed that they were familiar with this problem in some of their communities.  A rough indication of youth vulnerability to delinquent behaviours, the youngsters provided information that showed that the average child had some 40 hours of spare time hours weekly that needed to be filled with activities.  Coaches and youth were shown how after-school sport activities, using the GSF model could help children use some of that spare time productively and reduce the risk of getting into trouble.

To end the day, Coaches and Delegation Youth Leaders discussed the day's results and agreed on adjustments for the following day.  One Coach, Rodrigo (Brazil), presented information and a video on the work of his organization, Instituto Bola Pra Frente that is working to keep children enrolled in school.

Day 2
The Opening Ceremony took place at the Al Rayyan Sports Club, with Mr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, President of the Qatar Sailing & Rowing Federation giving the keynote address and then doing the "kick off".  Mr. Nasser Al-Attiyah, 4 times Olympian and World & Middle East Rally Champion also spoke and joined in the "kick off".

Preparations for the multinational competitions were done for players in football and basketball that included drills, techniques and teamwork.

A sightseeing trip was made to the Sailing & Rowing Federation, at the invitation of the President, and all children and coaches were allowed to get on the water in different boats and learned the basics of sailing or controlling power boats.  As the ISAF was conducting a training course for sailing trainers, the trainers were able to provide the GSF youth and coaches with sailing instructions and then accompanying them in test trips on the water.  Many of the children found sailing easy and a lot of fun.

Later, a bus load of children and coaches went to Souq Waqif to spend a part of the evening exploring various sections of the Souq.
