Participating delegations arrive at Olympic Training Centre in Spala

Teams arrival for the International Youth Camp in Spala, Poland - July 2009The participating delegations of the fourth international youth camp to be organised by the United Nations in cooperation with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) arrived at the Olympic Training Centre in SPALA, Poland on Monday.

The QOC officials exerted great efforts in receiving the delegation and escorting them to the Centre.

The camp will be held from July 21 to 25, 2009 with participation of 150 youngsters representing 13 counties including Greece,  former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland and Qatar.

On the other hand, the organizing committee held a meeting at the conferences and trainings centre to welcome the participating delegation and to explain programme and plans based on fair play, teamwork, the importance of sport in the fight against drugs and crimes.

Delegations appreciation
The participating delegations expressed their honour for participating in the camp. Toth Victor form the Hungarian delegation expressed his happiness for their participation and ensured about the follow up on GSF activities in future.

"I knew GSF programmes through my following up to the activities of third international camp in Cairo. I liked the concept that aims at using sport in the fight against drugs and crime," he said.

George Gagis, coach of Greek delegation hailed the concept and approach.

Majed Al Hadad, coach of the Qatar delegation stressed the importance of participation in the camp.

"We aim at ensuring the importance of sport for ideal usage of spare time and awareness of the usage of drugs," said Al Hadad.

Mrs. Khawla Khalid
Mrs. Khawla Khalid, Head of QOC international relations section ensured that all participating delegation arrived safely to Spala.

She made sure that QOC completes all preparations for the camp and afforded all requirements such as transportation and accommodation in addition to preparing for suitable halls and playgrounds for the activities.

Qatari Embassy in Poland
The representatives of Qatar's Embassy in Poland welcomed the visiting delegations at the Warsaw international airport. The staff was led by Ambassador Yousif Mohammad Bilal and the councilor, Khalid Zabin Al Dosari who coordinated with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the official bodies in Poland to facilitate the mission of the QOC delegation in organising the camp.

The activities of the camp will begin on Tuesday.  The opening day programme will be kicked off at 0800hrs with social lecture on (fair play) followed by matches with attendance of coaches to evaluate the fair play.

In the evening, a social lecture will be held followed by friendly matches in football and handball until 1730hrs. Mr. Carl Marsh, the GSF project coordinator will deliver the lectures.

Opening and Closing ceremony
The official opening ceremony will be staged on Wednesday morning with attendance of representatives of QOC, United Nations, Polish Ministry of Sport, Polish Olympic Committee, sports federations, participating delegations, Olympic Champions and VIP invitees.

The opening ceremony will include parade of participating delegation, speeches of the representatives from the United Nations, QOC, Polish Olympic Committee and the Polish Ministry of  Sport and Tourism followed by the oath of the camp.
